What a beautiful way to let go of one year and leap into another! My first ever collaboration with passionate being, Bonita C, Founder & Yoga Instructor of Traveling Mat Yoga. Bonita was one of the creatives I featured last year, inspired by her story and drive to pave her own path I knew she was the perfect place to start.
Before jumping into a little overview of our yoga session "The Art Of Letting Go'" I asked Bonita a bit about 2017 and her hopes for an adventurous 2018! (See below).
1. What are you up to now?
Traveling Mat Yoga is now 9 months old and has grown beyond 4 weekly classes. With almost a year under my belt and increased interests, I am now offering private lessons, and run three successful community programs in collaboration with the municipal government.
2. What has been your biggest accomplishment of 2017?
To have established my company as a trusted and credible brand within the community. My proudest project to date is the Warrior One Project, which is a community yoga program created for those with financial limitations. This is a municipal program organized by me. To be trusted with to host such a rewarding and significant project for the community of Deep River is beyond my wildest dreams!
3. Who/what inspired you most in 2017?
My 12-year-old students; Edie & Eryn! They approached me to do a Christmas Fundraising event to give back to families in need! Compassion has no age-limit, and they demonstrated clearly that you can never be too young to make an impact!
4. What are your top 3 goals for 2018?
1) To continue to use the Traveling Mat Yoga platform to make a positive impact in my community.
2) Host engaging events that will heighten community involvement and lessen isolation.
3) Continue to thrive on delivering a safe and positive environment for my clients to prioritize their well-being.
5. What advice would you give to someone looking to take a leap of faith and try something new/switch careers in 2018?
Do it wholeheartedly before you can talk yourself out of it. Trust your inner instinct and go with it! No one knows you better than yourself, it is important to have faith and trust in yourself and the process!
The Art Of Letting Go...
On December 30th before we rang in 2018, a beautiful group of individuals took time out of their busy schedules for a feel-good yoga event led by Bonita. The event was both a reflective class as well as an initiative to give back, as a portion of the proceeds went to Look Good, Feel Better a registered charity that assists women battling the fight against cancer, empowering them to feel more like themselves physically and emotionally.
When Bonita contacted me to host an event together, I knew it was exactly how I envisioned bringing the year to a close. 'The Art of Letting Go' focused on the repetition of movements and motions to help our bodies and minds let go of thoughts that no longer served us.
We solidified this concept by ending our yoga session with the act of letter writing. Each person wrote a letter to themselves to be opened in a years time - a useful tool to reflect on one's thoughts and growth over time as well as set intentions for better versions of ourselves.
A thought is the first step, saying it out loud makes it real but the physical action of doing, materializes it into something real. That's the way I felt about this class, about what each individual achieved in their own way. Life can get busy but we should never forget ourselves, our voice, our needs. I'd like to thank my good friend Bonita for helping us start the year off on a positive note in a purposeful way.
I cannot wait to see what comes from this year for her, for each of you and for myself, personally and professionally.
